Making the best of it
Title:  Making the best of it
Description:  The impressive Columbia River gorge has plenty of rail activity on both sides of the river. Aside from the obvious benefit of such traffic density, it can be frustrating when waiting upon activity on one side of the river to view what one is missing across the water. Such is the case at Biggs, OR as I wait for approaching UP traffic as an SD-70MAC heads a nice eastbound BNSF manifest cruising up the valley. But it is still a pretty sight.

Description:  A clean collection of CR, TRRA & BN locomotives is on hand for officials to inspect during a a negotiation session for new run-through agreements between the 3 railroads. The result was a daily round trip between the Chrysler assembly plant in Valley Park, MO, on the BN (ex-SLSF) and location in Toledo and Detroit on Conrail. Conrail power ran through on the TRRA and BN.

Description:  The "Longmont Switch" is a turn job out of Longmont. It does local switching to Fort Collins including interchanging with the GWR at Loveland and Ft. Collins. The "Switch" is passing the Loveland Feed & Grain mill. The mill was built in 1891 and at it's peak could produce 800 100lbs sacks of flour. The structure is constructed of Stone, brick, wood and corrugated sheet metal and was closed in 2004. It has been repurposed as an art gallery. BNSF 2137 was built for the Penn Central in 1970.
