Hard to catch
Title:  Hard to catch
Description:  But it wasnt easy!! In October 1987, Western NY NRHS ran a couple of circle trips from Buffalo through Rochester on the CR Chicago Line, down to Corning on the Corning Secondary, then back to Buffalo on the Southern Tier. I caught the Oct 17 trip out of Corning, and chased down the Canisteo River. The Es did what they do best-about 70 MPH-and I was doing 75 along River Rd from Addison, along with three other lunatics. The only thing that saved us is that the police presence down there was almost nil at the time-in 20 years of running that road, I think I saw a sheriffs car one time. We were cooking. I finally got ahead of the train at Carson, yielding this shot.

Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8610 is an APS-24MS built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. PRR 5898 - St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern
Title:  PRR 5898 - St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern
Description:  This is the 5898's good side, the one with the pinstripes. I really hope they can repaint this sometime, it's a shame to see something with the potential to look so nice, look so horrible.
