Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8659 and #8670. Both are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train into the Hollidaysburg Yards. This photo taken along Broad Street, just West of the Jackson Street Crossing. |

They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train and are about to pass by the Passenger Station on their way into the Hollidaysburg Yards. (The bicycle in the right foreground was my main means of transportation during my early days of train watching and photographing.) |

24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsyovania, on 10 January 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8659 and #8666. Both are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. They are pulling an 82-car merchandise freight train down!the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. The caboose is N-8 #478217. This photo taken just West of the 24th Street Bridge. |

AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1967. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8659, #8667, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8659 and #8667 are both AS-18AM's rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8659 was constructed in January of 1958, while #8667 was built in February of the same year. They're serving as tail-end pushers for a mixed-cargo freight train that's rounding the Curve on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." Produced and distributed by FJC Products of Newport, Delaware. |
