Winter camouflage
Title:  Winter camouflage
Description:  On the KCS, where they dont get a lot of snow, the white did not have the issue with blending into its surroundings. On the D&H, well, that was a different story. Three ex KCS units lead a westbound 271 toward the yard at BX, doing a good job of blending in to their environment.

Ex KCS units
Title:  Ex KCS units
Description:  CP picked up seven KCS SD 40s in the early going on the D&H, and ran them in white for a while before painting the whole group in Dual Flags. Heres a pair of them with an eastbound Sea Land train at Campville in the late afternoon.

Ex KCS power
Title:  Ex KCS power
Description:  CP bought 7 ex KCS SD40s, 670 through 676, and put them into service without repainting, just adding CP Rail decals, and keeping the KCS numbers. They were ultimately repainted in the dual flag scheme, and got CP numbers 5415 thru 5421. Here a pair of unrepainted units leads a northbound at BX

Coal train east
Title:  Coal train east
Description:  An 890 train of 70 cars is about to pass under the NY 17C bridge as it heads to Binghamton and a crew change to go north. The black box in the foreground is the grease reservoir for the flange oiler that greases the wheels on eastbound trains here.

Past the signals
Title:  Past the signals
Description:  The semaphore at Waverly was on a mast, and at one time hosted a warning light for a hot box detector a few miles to the west on track 2-note the pole sticking straight down below the signal. The signal on the track 1 was unfortunately a tri light unit, so no twin semaphores here. It was still a good shot as we see 270 rolling east behind an SD40 mix with 23 cars.
