MILW GP20 972 |
Description: |
Milwaukee Road GP20 972 at West Nahant, Iowa on August 8, 1982, Kodachrome by Gib Allbach, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 972 was built in May 1956 as GP9 254 (c/n 21206), rebuilt ijn October 1972 as GP20 972. The GP20 designation is a bit mis-leading; an EMD GP20 was powered by a 16-567D2 turbocharged prime mover, whereas a MILW GP20 was powered with a non-turbocharged 16-645E prime mover, same as EMD's GP38. All produced 2000 horsepower. |
