| North Platt, Nebraska, June 18, 2022, 11:27 a.m. UPY 417: EMD PS6B. Built February 1974 as EMD SD40-2 CEI (Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad) 3141. Rebuilt as slug for mother locomotive UPY 317. The engine, radiator, alternator, and air compressor have been removed. The fuel tanks have been filled with concrete to add ballast weight to the locomotive. Power for the driving axle traction motors and compressed air for the train brakes are produced by the mother unit UPY 317. Used for yard switching. The locomotive has all its cab controls and can by operated by the engineer as the lead locomotive. |
