Here is page five of a 17-page version of the Pennsylvania Railroad's 13-page booklet entitled "Altoona Shops Inspection Trip ~ Sunday, May 16, 1937." It appeared in the September 1981 issue of "The Keystone" magazine, page 8. Partial Caption: "No. 5699, K-5 rolling into the old station at Harrisburg, Pa....Photo by Bruce D. Fales." #5699 is a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1929 and retired in September of 1953 after just 24 years of active service. Note the absence of overhead catenary; the PRR's electrification project had not yet reached Harrisburg ~ hence the change from electric to steam power at Paoli, not Harrisburg. |
