Illinois Central Gulf office car No. 6 was bringing up the rear of Amtrak's northbound PANAMA LIMITED at Carrollton Junction in New Orleans. The train had just began operating with Amfleet cars, and today the little 1300-series Ambag was placed behind the coaches instead of at the front of the train so it could act as a buffer with the office car. The old type diaphragm on ICG 6 could damage the lightweight diaphragms on the Amfleet cars; but the little baggage cars didn't have any diaphragms and could be coupled to anything. The office car had been built by American Car & Foundry in 1915 as IC 16. |
