CN local crawls across the former C&NW bridge over the Fox River as it services the Expera Specialty Solutions (originally Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co.) paper mill at Kaukauna, WI on 28 Jan. '13. Locals need to pull onto the bridge in order to clear the turnout which permits them to shove cars into the mill's stub yard. The rails now end at the opposite bank of the Fox River, but they used to continue to a wye at the intersection of Island St. and Dodge St. The north leg of the wye led to C&NW's Kaukauna yard and shops and on to Appleton Junction. The east leg of the wye led to Manitowoc, WI. The train was too long to be shoved into the mill's stub yard all at once. This is the second half, the remainder of the train was spotted a few minutes earlier. Bridge was built by American Bridge Co. of New York in 1911. |
