Here is a photo of a "boomer" locomotive that bounced from one railroad to another and caught here as C&O 2-10-2 #2956 in the Potomac Yards. Originally built for the Lehigh Valley in December of 1919 by Baldwin as LV #4066, it and its sisters were sold to the Hocking Valley in 1920. this loco became Hocking Valley #136. When Hociking Valley became part of the C&O, it was renumbered C&O #2956. After nearly 33 years of service to all, the loco was retired and scrapped in July of 1952. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29x32" cylinders, engine weight of 384,100 lb, tractive effort of 74,430 lb. Glenn Pfleghar photographer |
