NJ Transit GP40P 4111
Fresh NJ Transit paint has replaced the buue and yellow of former CNJ GP40P 3682 at Elizabethport in July, 1981. NJDOT, like Conrail in their early years, stenciled the former CNJ GP40P's with a new road numbdr and added a symbol to the rear flank. It took some time after NJDOT became NJ Transit in 1979 for the old EMDs to receive full repaints.

Tom Beckett General The longer it took, the better. The original white with disco stripes was awful. The EL scheme from their U34CH's was a much more attractive scheme, and looked good on the units that got it, among them GP7P's, GP40P's, and E8's. Of course, you couldn't beat a blue GP40P and red GP7 on the Bay Head Empire Builder. 1/11/2016 3:02:43 AM
Alan Page General There again, state-run systems come up with the most awful paint schemes. Private rail back in those days had some pretty classy jobs, but for the unimaginative PC, of course. 1/28/2016 7:41:39 PM
