K040 arrives at Eastside Yard  Contributor's Pick!
CSX train K040 arrives at its destination at CSXs Eastside Yard in Philadelphia after traveling approximately 2,000 miles from the Bakken shale of North Dakota. The train is seen pulling out of the Grays Ferry Tunnel. This tunnel was built by the B&O railroad in 1918. Of note, this photo was shot on the 40th Anniversary of June 15, 1973; the date that the B&O, C&O, and WM officially came to form the Chessie System. Thus began a successful alliance amidst the uncertainty of east coast railroading in the early 1970s. It is an important day in CSX history. Moreover, this is probably the only day that I was actually kind of disappointed to see an all-foreign consist on this CSX train. Kind of.
