| IC E8 4022 southbound at about 22nd Street, Chicago, Illinois, October 14, 1963, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in April 1951 (c/n 14083) on EMD Order 2037, it eventually was leased to Amtrak retaining road number 4022, scrapped during 1980. Thanks to Bob Lalich, I can identify the embankment. It is seen here on the "jumpover" tracks leading south out of Central Station. Rather than have interlocking to cross the IC's passenger trains over the Electric Division's tracks, the IC built an earthen hill that lifted trains over. The Electric Division's tracks can be see (somewhat) in the lower left, crossing under this train and will be on the other side. |
