KCS GP40 782
Kansas City Southern GP40 782 was parked at WEST YARD, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in February 1967 as Illinois Central 3046 (EMD 32866) and was acquired by the KCS in April 1982, after its initial 15-year lease expired. In July 1991 KCS sent the 782 to Morrison-Knudsen’s MOUNTAINTOP LOCOMOTIVE SHOP in Pennsylvania to have its prime mover swapped with the 765, which was then upgraded into GP40M-2 4784. The 782 remained at Mountaintop and was finally scrapped in March 1996.
