Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad F3 880B departing Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1978, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in December 1946 (c/n 3601) on EMD Order E695, it was retired in October 1978, the prime mover was removed, and it was put on display in a park in Farber, Missouri. However, the city felt it was a liability and safety hazard, and it was scrapped sometime around 1990. It is seen here heading a train known as "The Plug", a GM&O commuter train between Chicago and Joliet (anyone know the origin on the train name?). Also seen is BN E9Am 9910 which fared a bit better in the survival game, for a while, working for the Nashville and Eastern after retiring from the BN in 1992. It is seen here about to divert to the southwestern suburbs of Chicago. |
