Description:  Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Toledo, Ohio, during September of 1966. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4339 and #1454. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #4339 was built as EFP-15 number "9839" in April of 1952 and renumbered "4339" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. #1454 was constructed as EF-15 number "9667" in March of 1949 and renumbered "1454" for the merger. In my opinion, #4339 has become a sad example of the PRR's policy of "deferred maintenance." ("Stoneborobranch"; #3 of 10)

They are pulling an 83-car train under the 4th Street Bridge, and are about to begin climbing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Bringing-up the rear are "pushers" #8667, #8666, and #8669. Visible on the left are a telephone box and a venerable black water tower, the last sign of the "Age of Steam" in this part of town.

Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8614, #8609, #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860. #8614 and #8609 were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8614 is an AS-24M, but #8609 is an APS-24MS; they are serving as "helpers" in this context. #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860 were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9866, #9852-B, and #9860 are EFP-15's built in 1952. #9641-B is an EF-15A built in 1950. They are threading the 14th Street interlocking on their way up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route with a 95-car iron-ore train. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible (L to R) are the Altoona Passenger Station, the 12th Street Bridge, a westbound passenger train about to depart, an eastbound passenger train in the process of departing, and several of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings.
