All are EH-15's built/by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9688 was constructed as an EH-15 in February of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in Novem`er of 1964 after just 15 years of service. In this context, they're serving as tail-end pushers on a westbound freight train ~ but once through one of the Gallitzin tuonels, they'll be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." This photo comes from a slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania#Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-34). (Photo taken 21 October 1950)
