PRR 9394, ES-12, 1960
Description:
Everyday. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 2 August 1960. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #9394 and #9172. Both were built by EMD. #9394 is an ES-12 built in 1950 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. #9172 is an ES-10 built in 1948 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Both of these locomotives are just idiling-away in the summer sun. Visible in the background are the old wooden water tower (the last vestage of the Steam Age in Hollidaysburg) and the western end of the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop. Queen Anne's lace rules the foreground! This photo was taken near the Yard Master's Office, at the very eastern end of South Juniata Street.

PRR 9468, FF-20, #1 of 3, 1960
Description:
Road Power. Here is an original photo that I took of road locomotives in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 22 August 1960. Prominent here (R to L) are PRR engines #9468 and #9469. Both are FF-20's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #9468 was constructed in February of 1948 and retired in June of 1963, while #9469 was built in March of 1948 and retired in October of 1962. This photo reveals just how the process worked. The locomotives and the cabin car would have been driven forward from East Altoona to the Wye Switches in Duncansville, proceeded up the New Portage Branch line for a hundred feet or so, and then run backwards from there into the Hollidaysburg Yards. This crew has just uncoupled from N-5 cabin car #477020, which will be pulled to the far end of the Yard and coupled to the out-bound train by engine #9394 ~ an ES-12 switcher built by GM-EMD in May of 1950. After the cabin has been moved, this crew will back their FF-20 locomotives a bit further into the Yard and couple onto the train they'll move. From here, the train will pass the Passenger Station in Hollidaysburg and WYE Tower in Duncansville, climb the Allegheny Mountains using the New Portage Branch, and merge eventually with the mainline at Gallitzin. This photo was taken just west of the intersection of Jones and South Juniata Streets. Visible in the distance is the PRR's Samuel Rea Shop.

PRR 9394, ES-12, 1960
Description:
Wye Switches. Here is an original photo that I took at the Wye Switches in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, on 31 August 1960. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9394, an ES-12 built by EMD in May of 1950 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. In this context, it's pushing a string of gondolas past WYE Tower toward the Hollidaysburg Yards. Note the dwarf signal in the foreground. From 1834 to 1954, this was the original right-of-way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad.

Ford (FRDX) #12004 or #12084 ?
Description:
Scanned from a print I took. This engine obviously says #12084 near the low end of cab, but may say #12004 on the front headlight number signs. Did they have 2 of these engines at one point at Connersville?
