Description:  Here is page four of a 22-page booklet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "A Pictorial Review Of Progress On The Pennsylvania." It was issued originally in March of 1953. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "Here is the new all-room 'Broadway Limited' crossing New Jersey on its way from New York and Philadelphia to Chicago, drawn by one of our one-hundred electric passenger locomotives." Prominent here is PRR engine #4902, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata during May of 1940 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "At right is a new electric freight locomotive employing the first successful application of the ignitron rectifier, an electronic principle using large mercury arc tubes to convert alternating current, more efficiently transmitted, to direct current, used more readily by traction motors." Prominent here is PRR engine #4996, an E-3B (B-B-B) built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in June of 1951, rated at 3,000 horsepower, and retired in June of 1965.
