KCS Northbound Train |
Description: |
Kansas City Southern F3A 95 and a pair of unidentified B-units were on a northbound train passing the SIGNOR team track just west (timetable north) of New Orleans. The grade crossing under construction in the foreground would become Clearview Parkway. Number 95 may have been unique in that it had red stripes, while most white units had yellow ones. At this location, the train was heading right into the afternoon sun. |

Description: |
Kansas City Southern F7 95 at Heavener, Oklahoma on May 21, 1976, slide by Paul Strang from Chuck Zeiler collection. I know nothing about this slide. It is unmarked and in a mount that says, Seal Edge With Warm Iron, suggesting that it was mounted by someone other than the lab. UPDATE: I received an email from Paul Strang that says; Steve Laser and I shot each shot that. This slide is mine. The Fort Smith Dodger completed its work early and tied up in Heavener, OK yard 5/21/76. |

Spring Railfest and the "24 Train" |
Description: |
Former CNW F7(A) lead the "24 Train" in a downpour in Fillmore, CA as seen from the eaves of the SP depot. This train set had been used in the opening scene of Season Four of the hit Fox TV show "24." It hit a truck parked on the tracks and exploded in a scene shot over by the Fish Hatchery. F7(A) #100 was originally delivered to the C&NW as their #4068A in March of 1949. It was rebuilt as a commuter engine in 1959 and renumbered to 409, before becoming Chicago RTA #409 in 1978 and then Metra in 1983. Later, it went to Rails Diversified, and then to Winchseter & Western, and then to Maryland Midland as their number 100. Shortline Enterprises (the owner of Fillmore and Western) acquired it from them. |
