Damage after Runaway Boxcar Collision
Description:
At first glance, SOU #4909 doesn't appear too damaged after runaway Southern boxcar #306153 rammed into it but look closer at the pilot coupler. That was the impact point. Albeit, the locomotive was an immovable force being hit by a bantam weight! The original photographer name appears to have been marked out and James Crowton stamp was placed next to it.

CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4952
Description:
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4952 at Centralia, Illinois on May 12, 1956, photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. This might be a good photo to explain (as I understand it) the Elesco Feed Water System, named for the initials in the manufacturer's name, the Locomotive Superheater Compaany, LSCo. The water in the tender was piped up in the diagonal pipe below the cab to the pump above the rear driver, then pumped up to the cylindrical device located between the headight and stack. There coiled pipes of cold tender water would pass through a chamber of hot steam, pre-heating and routing the heated tender water through the check valve below the sand dome.

CBQ 2-8-2 #4960 - Chicago, Burlington & Quincy
Description:
Another nice example of a 1923 Baldwin built Mikado. Note the fireman standing on the tender platform to the far right checking out the coal load. Not much information came with this slide other than the photographer's name, Glenn N. Pizer. From the double decker commuter cars in the background, I am guessing Chicago as the location but with Bob Campbell's help (see comment below), I now know it's Aurora, IL. Specifics - class O-1A, 64" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 316,780, tractive effort of 58,092 lb. Thankfully, this locomotive is now part of the Grand Canyon Railway. The date is an arbitrary one. Glenn N. Pizer photo

CB&Q 2-8-2 O-1-A 4960
Description:
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4960 eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on August 7, 1961, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. This photo shows two personal experiences by myself. The first is the angle of this photo, achievable only from the bedroom of the house next to the tracks on Loomis Street in Naperville, and I happened to live there. Unfortunately, my bedroom was on the side away from the tracks, so I had to run into my parents room to get this shot. The second experience was that I participated in the railfan safety violation as seen here. The idea was to wait in the power car until the Conductor got busy elsewhere. Then we ran through the generator room and would hang out on the forward vestibule riding right up against the tender, until we got caught, and this was before the canteen tender was added. Good experiences, good smells too.
