PRR 6311, AF-27, 1966 |
Description: |
12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here is PRR engine #6311, an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. It is pulling a special cargo freight train past the Altoona Station on its way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Visible in the background are three of the original PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. |

PRR 6311, AF-27, 1966 |
Description: |
Mid-Mountain. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-June of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #6311, #6056, and another unit whose number is not visible. #6311 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. #6056 is an EF-30A built by EMD in 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains, but will uncouple at Gallitzin and return to East Altoona for yet another run up the Mountains. |
