Title:
PRR 6976, M-1, 1955
Description:
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken near Duncannon, Pennsylvania, on 24 July 1955. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6976, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Lima Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in March of 1956 after 30 years of faithful service. In this context, it's pulling a long string of empty hopper cars out of Enola back to Altoona and the bituminous coal mines of Western Pennsylvania. ("LouisFols"; #19 of 21)
