Description:  TRB. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Don Ball, Jr., that was taken at the Rockville Bridge near Marysville, Pennsylvania, in April of 1956. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad "Mountains" about to pass one another with their respective freight trains. In the foreground is eastbound #6738, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A during July of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in October of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. In the background is westbound #6721, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by Baldwin in May of 1930 and retired in February of 1956.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6738, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A during July of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in October of 1948, and retired in September of 1959 after 29 years of faithful service. It's crossing the Rockville Bridge with a mixed-cargo freight train out of Enola on its way to Renovo and points North.

Description:  Here is page six of a six-page article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "Atterbury's Engines: Part 2 ~ Why The M-1's Outlasted The Duplex Drives." It was published originally in the November 1979 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 49. Top Photo Caption: "If there was a sight more impressive than one M-1a in action it was that of two such machines; 6738 and 6795 shake up the south side of Chicago on April 10, 1947." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6738 and #6795. Both are M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" steam locomotives. #6738 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A in June of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in October of 1948, and retired in September of 1959. #6795 was built by the Lima Locomotive Works as an M-1A in April of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in August of 1944, and retired in December of 1956. Middle Photo Caption: "Q-2 4-4-6-4 6186 and M-1 6985 chatted in Fort Wayne, Ind., yard. Latter was destined to outlive the former thanks to simpler machinery." Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6186 and #6985. #6186 is a Q-2 (4-4-6-4) duplex built in Juniata in April of 1945 and retired in December of 1955. #6985 is an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by Lima in September of 1926 and retired in August of 1956.
